Michael D. Packer

Chairman

Michael is the Director of Manufacturing, Advanced Production Programs at Lockheed Martin Skunk Works®, bringing more than 40 years of expertise in production engineering and operations. His experience spans staff, line management, and executive leadership roles across department, plant, division, and corporate levels.

Since 2012, Michael has served on the SME International Board of Directors and has been honored as a member of the SME College of Fellows. He currently chairs the NCDMM Board of Directors and serves as Director and Treasurer on the Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC) Executive Board.

Michael is actively involved in several professional organizations. He was conferred Associate Fellow by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics in 2011 and is a long-standing member of SAE International, where he served as General Chair of the AeroTech World Congress. Additionally, he held the role of Chair for the Manufacturing Division Executive Committee of the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA).

Certified in the Shingijutsu Lean Production System, Michael previously served on the Board of MIT’s Lean Aerospace Initiative (LAI). He has authored numerous articles on manufacturing strategy, advanced technologies, team-based organizational development, and talent management.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Technology from Eastern Michigan University, an MBA from Washington University in St. Louis, and has completed the Manufacturing Executive Program at the University of Michigan.
